GOAL LINE GATHERING 2026
Screening and discussion of Invincible Opponent, a mini-documentary on Rwandan women football and mental health.
Imagine playing your heart out week after week, pouring everything you have into the game you love and going home to fight a battle no one can see. This is the story of countless women footballers across Africa, that has gone largely untold.
This May, aligning with Global Mental Health Awareness Month, The Goal Line Gathering by Echoes from Faraday is telling the story of the lived experiences, vulnerabilities, and profound resilience of Rwandan women footballers through a poignant mini-documentary titled “Invincible Opponent”, which is the latest chapter of their anthology in progress and will be screening at Gyandu Place, East Legon on 30th May, 2026 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.

Mental health has been treated as a weakness in sport, as something to suppress, to push through and never speak out aloud. In African women’s football, where the pressures of the game are worsened by cultural expectations and limited support structures, this silence can be terribly damaging, hence the relevance of the “Goal Line Gathering”.
The Goal Line Gathering is an annual forum held by Echoes from Faraday, an artistic community dedicated to supporting the mental health of African women footballers, with a growing community of over 200 women footballers across Africa. This gathering is designed for players, coaches, industry players, and allies to have a sit down conversation on mental health in African women Football, using mini-documentaries and professional discussions with resource persons to normalise these conversations.
As part of this year’s Goal Line Gathering, there will be an interactive moderated discussion with the filmmaker - Fumey Kafui Dorcas and resource persons from the Sports and Mental health space sharing their lived experience and offering insight and support. Judith Affran, a video editor and screenwriter with over a decade of experience in the film industry has been a strong force behind the community’s visual storytelling. Her passion for exploring mental health and the well-being of women positioned her as a vital part of the creative journey of the ongoing anthology by Echoes From Faraday and will be joining the Panel discussion during the gathering.
Fumey Kafui Dorcas, is also a Footballer and the Lead of the Echoes From Faraday project, with a background in Theatre Arts. She makes use of her creative skills and experience as a footballer by bringing rare emotional depth to untold stories blending film and performance poetry, creating awareness on mental health issues especially about women in football across Africa and normalizing the conversation in the game. For Fumey Kafui Dorcas, the mission behind this project is deeply personal. “Mental health is a crucial conversation in African women's football, and I am grateful to be part of this journey with an incredible community of African women footballers. As a footballer and filmmaker, these stories hit close to home,” she passionately shares.

Ultimately, winning goes beyond a ball crossing the Goal Line. Join us on 30th May, 2026 at the Goal Line Gathering happening at Gyandu place, East Legon from 6:00pm- 8:00pm to ignite the movement that puts mental health on the pitch and engage in critical conversations about prioritizing well-being in African Women's football.
